Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered plenty of interesting independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired jumping adventure includes a protagonist that is truly a dung striving to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In 150 levels, encounter mini-bosses and access a store to buy skins for your poop character.

Plan your jumps carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Bounce on floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, navigate crumbling platforms, and touch switches to open new areas. Collect UN-KOINS for buying more difficult levels in which the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the game boasts vibrant stages and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style of shifting geometric shapes could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's hard to think of similar titles where you play as a piece of feces, video games have long included fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from protagonist waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present a lot in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, like being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to arrive on computers on November 19.
